Course Description
This course is designed for physical and occupational therapists and provides the foundational knowledge required to implement PoNS Therapy with individuals following stroke and those living with multiple sclerosis (MS). Participants will explore the principles of translingual neurostimulation, including the mechanism of action and principles of neuroplasticity, review the current clinical evidence supporting PoNS Therapy, and learn practical recommendations for patient selection, treatment implementation, and device operation. Upon completion, clinicians will be equipped with the essential knowledge and clinical guidance to appropriately integrate PoNS Therapy into the rehabilitation of individuals with gait impairments following stroke and MS to optimize functional outcomes. This course is pending CEU accreditation approval for 1 contact hour
Introduction to PoNS and Translingual Neurostimulation
In this course you will learn what PoNS® Therapy and translingual neurostimulation are, explore the science behind this innovative technoogy, and understand its relevance to neurorehabilitation.
Principles of Neuroplasticity & Evidence for Use Supporting PoNS Therapy
You will also learn the physiological mechanisms underlying PoNS® Therapy, including key principles of neuroplasticity and how translingual neurostimulation may promote adaptive changes in brain function to support recovery.
Clinical Applications in Neurorehabilitation
Finally, you will learn about the clinical applications of PoNS® Therapy in neurorehabilitation and how it can be integrated into a plan of care both in the clinic and at home.
